Scholar Investment Challenge

DSE Scholar Investment Challenge (SIC)

DSE launched its first Scholar Investment Challenge (SIC) in 2014 in order to tap into the growing workforce of the country. The competition, which targets higher learning institutions in Tanzania, was well received, and approximately 2,100 students from various institutions countrywide actively participated in the 3-month long challenge.

Pleased by the impact of this initiative, DSE conducted the SIC challenge again in 2015 with joint sponsorship from Twiga Cement and Vodacom and recorded an elevated participation of 2,300 students. In the second challenge students demonstrated more depth in their investment thinking, and the level of participation demonstrated an increased understanding of investment in the financial markets among higher learning institutions generally.

Its 3rd edition, in 2016, was supported by CRDB Bank PLC and the Financial Sector Deepening Trust (FSDT) as the main and second sponsor respectively. DSE enabled students with smartphones to participate more interactively, which resulted in a 48% increase in participation to a total of 3,400 students.

The main objective of the DSE Scholar Investment Challenge is to impart knowledge of investment in the capital markets and create a culture of saving and investment among the youth. It also aims to enhance financial management and entrepreneurial skills among Tanzanian youth, create a sense of ownership, loyalty and association with the youth, and educate them on prudent investment decision making and risk management.
